FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What can I make with the Mash DIY Snack mix?
There are lots of ways to use the Mash DIY Snack mix. Most people like to make really easy bliss balls, but if you don't want to roll alot of balls, you can line a bread loaf tin with plastic wrap and press the wet mixture into that evenly to make a slice.
You can also make the bliss balls up, place on a lined baking tray and press the balls with fork to resemble a cookie shape. Optional to keep as raw cookies or bake in the oven on 180 degrees Celcius for 15mins.
Another option is use the made up mix as a base for peanut butter cups or raw cheese cakes.
You can also use the dry mix as pancake mix. Just add eggs along with the banana.
You can use the dry mix as a muesli when camping or hiking or make a breakfast parfait with it using yoghurt between layers.
You can make cake pops with the balls by inserting a popsicle stick and dip in chocolate.
Add 2 eggs and mashed banana for a brownie batter and bake for 20mins on 180 degrees Celcius.
2. Do you need a banana to make these up?
While we do love using that over ripe banana up before it heads to the freezer, plus its a great way to naturally sweeten and bind the product, you can use other things. Here are some examples if you don't have a banana or don't like banana:
- 1/3 cup apple or berry puree with 1-2Tb honey
- 1/4 cup yoghurt or coconut cream with your choice of sweetener eg honey, stevia, monk fruit
- 3Tb peanut butter
- 3Tb jam
3. How many snack balls does the packet make?
Using our suggested tsp of a mixture when made up with the banana, you will get between 20-24 balls. For smaller children you can make them smaller and get up to 28 balls.
For a slice, you will get 10 pieces of slice but for little children under 3, about 16 pieces.
4. Are there nuts in the mix?
There are no added nuts in the dry mix, however we cannot guarantee no cross contamination with the imported ingredients.
5. Is your product dairy free?
There is no added dairy to the dry mix, however we cannot guarantee no cross contamination from imported ingredients.
6. Is your product Gluten Free
Yes, we test for gluten and meets the recommended guidelines for being gluten free
7. Do you have to bake the product?
No thank goodness! You can make these delicious raw snacks up in minutes and they are ready to eat. No cooking or baking unless you want to i.e. make cookies.
8. How do I make these?
Just mash your over-ripe banana with a fork for a minute or two in a medium bowl, so it looks like puree (try get the lumps out).
Add the whole dry mix and stir in so that the dry mixture absorbs moisture from banana. It should form a dough-like texture. If the mixture is still abit wet, (sometimes bananas can be quite large), just wait 5mins while the seeds absorb moisture. Then using a tsp of mixture, roll into ball with your hands and again in desiccated coconut or cinnamon. Or drizzle chocolate over the top.
9. Do I need to keep these in the fridge?
For the un opened dry mix no you don't. You can keep in the pantry in a cool place. Once made up with the banana, yes you have to keep in the fridge for up to 5 days or freezer for months. They freeze really well! Perfect to take out of the freezer and pop into school lunchboxes.
10. Are your products organic?
Our desiccated coconut is organic and has no added sulphites or preservatives. Some of our seed suppliers are organic but due to cost and availability, we cannot guarantee only organic products. We try buy organic when its available and cost wise.
